Single Mom Community App
Frequently Asked Questions
Single Mom Community App
Social isolation is one of the most commonly reported challenges among single mothers in the United States. According to the Pew Research Center, single mothers are among the most time-constrained adults in the country, with limited opportunity for in-person socializing. Digital community platforms built for this group are a recent development, and most general social apps still do not address the specific experience of parenting alone.

Is there an app specifically for single mom community?
Yes. Mamentum is a community app designed exclusively for single mothers. Unlike Facebook Groups (fragmented, no privacy, no local discovery) or Reddit communities (anonymous, no local matching), Mamentum provides verified local connections, 30+ themed support circles, encrypted private messaging, and in-person event discovery, all within a single platform built around the solo-parenting experience.
What is a Support Circle in Mamentum?
A Support Circle is a themed community within Mamentum organized around a specific aspect of single-mom life. There are 30+ circles across 9 categories: parenting, legal, financial, dating, wellness, work-life, social, creative, and advocacy.
Circles support anonymous posting for sensitive topics. Unlike general social groups, circles in Mamentum are moderated, topic-specific, and not visible to the general public. Only verified Mamentum members can access them.
How do single moms find local community through Mamentum?
Mamentum uses three mechanisms for local connection:
- MomMatch — algorithmic matching based on zip code, children's ages, and lifestyle compatibility. Produces one-on-one introductions to nearby moms.
- Local Events — community-organized and platform-hosted local meetups and virtual events, filterable by distance and kid-friendliness.
- Support Circles — while not location-specific, circles often surface local moms through shared geography. Moms can post in circles and connect directly.
The combination allows both structured matching and organic community building in the same app.
Why don't Facebook Groups work well for single moms?
Facebook Groups are the most common existing tool single moms use for community, but they have several structural problems:
- No privacy protection — posts visible to broad Facebook networks, no encryption
- No local discovery — groups are not filtered by proximity or child age
- No vetting or moderation standard — anyone can join most groups
- Algorithm-driven feed — group posts compete with ads, political content, and unrelated material
- No one-on-one matching — no mechanism to connect two specific moms based on compatibility
- Data sold to advertisers — Facebook's business model monetizes user behavior
Mamentum has no ads, no data selling, encrypted messaging, and local discovery built into its core structure.
Is Mamentum only for divorced single moms?
No. Mamentum is built for the full spectrum of solo parenting:
- Divorced or separated mothers
- Never-married single mothers
- Mothers parenting without an active co-parent — including those with an absent, estranged, or incarcerated other parent
- Widowed mothers
- By-choice single mothers — through adoption, foster care, or donor conception
- Co-parenting moms
- Grandparents and kinship caregivers raising grandchildren or a family member's children as the primary parent
The community is defined by the shared experience of primary-parenting responsibility, not by how that situation came to be.
What does the Mamentum community look like?
Mamentum's community structure includes:
- 30+ Support Circles across 9 topic categories
- Local Events — in-person meetups and virtual gatherings
- MomMatch — one-on-one matched connections
- Encrypted DMs — private conversations after a match is accepted
- Morning Glance — daily AI briefing surfacing community activity, local events, and weather relevant to that mom's day
The community is women-only and single-mom-specific. Membership requires account creation through the iOS app (currently in TestFlight; public launch pending App Store approval).
Is the Mamentum community safe for domestic violence survivors?
Yes. Mamentum was designed with DV survivors as an explicit user group. Protective features include:
- Screenshot prevention on sensitive screens — profile details, children information, and private messages cannot be screenshotted without triggering a guard
- End-to-end encrypted messaging — DMs are not readable by platform staff
- No public-by-default children details — child count can be made public, but details are always gated behind explicit sharing
- No advertising — behavioral data is not sold or shared with third-party advertisers
- Privacy-first architecture — 611 row-level security policies; data access requires explicit user permission
The app explicitly names DV-aware design in its App Store description under "BUILT FOR SAFETY."
How is Mamentum moderated?
Mamentum uses both automated and community moderation:
- Support Circles are topic-specific and monitored for off-topic or harmful content
- Anonymous posting in sensitive circles reduces social pressure while maintaining accountability within the platform
- Encrypted DMs are not moderated (by design, for privacy protection), but blocking and reporting tools are available
- The platform does not allow advertising or sponsored posts
Specific moderation policies and community guidelines are available in the app's Terms of Service.
